Being careful with ‘companies’ that offer ‘Cheap web design’

Cheap website design often means poor quality designs and and bad coding- thus leading a complete failure from day 1;  so you should always look very closely into what you are actually paying for before departing with your hard-earned.

There are many websites out there that offer ‘cheap web design‘, but be careful- Some will take your money then leave you to create the site yourself from one of their ‘pre-made templates’!

Yes that’s right- Some of these so called ‘companies’ allow you to login and choose from a range of templates, then add your own content. Whilst this may suit you, and you consider £100 an acceptable amount to pay for what you get- You’re being conned! You can get this kind of website for FREE if only you’d spend a little more time in Google.

If you only need a website for personal/ family use, using a ‘free website’ is fine. However- If you’re looking to succeed on the internet, a ‘free website‘, or ‘cheap website‘  is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Not only will people not take you seriously, but here’s a few of the ‘cons’ you maybe faced with-

• Adverts being plastered across your website
• Inability to use your own domain name. Instead, your site could look like this: www.freewebsitecompany.com/YOURNAME or www.YOURNAME.freewebsitecompany.com
• Sponsored links to bad websites being placed in the footer of your site, leading to greatly effecting your search engine rankings in Google, Yahoo, etc!
• Badly designed pages with many of the important things missed out which are needed to get your website decent rankings in the search engines. Remember- Your website can look fantastic, but without being noticed in the search engines- You’re not going to succeed on the internet.
• Unable to have your own yourname@yourdomain.com email address.
• The server your site is stored on maybe useless- Maybe it’s not running the latest software(s), or simply doesn’t support certain features.

How do I know to take a web design company seriously or not?

Whilst there’s always a chance of being ‘conned’ by so-called website developers on the internet, there’s a few things you should consider when looking for a professional to develop your website-

• Do they offer a personal quote, or only list ‘packages’ with set prices?
• Do they have a land-line contact number?
• Does their website look professional to you? Does it impress you?
• Always read the small print BEFORE handing over any money
• Find out what their payment schedule is! Example: TS-WebCreations only ask for 50% of the web design fees upfront. The remaining 50% is payable when we have finished your website, and you are happy with the outcome.
• Check that you can use your own domain name.
• Ensure web hosting is optional, and that if you ever want to move host, you can take your website with you!
• Make sure they know what they’re doing when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If they don’t- You’ll end up with a website that will never make you any money, and to be blunt- You won’t exist on the internet.

Something else to consider…

Web design portfolio:

Does their portfolio impress you? This shouldn’t be taken for granted. You should always check the websites linked to in their portfolio to see if they have a link on the site in question. After all- TS Web Creations could say they developed eBay.com- But do you see a link to us at the bottom of their website? If you take a look at the bottom of this website- www.susiehutson.co.uk… You’ll see a link to TS-WebCreations. So yes, you can rest assured; we did develop that website.

If you don’t see a link to the web design company on their ‘clients’ site, but they insist they developed it, contact the website owners and ask them to confirm it, or even for a reference.
