Facebook Marketing FOR YOUR BUSINESS PAGEFacebook guide delays

Firstly, sincere apologies for the delay in publishing part 2 of this guide to using Facebook as an online marketing tool. Not only have we been very busy of late, but Facebook have also changed a few things recently, so we thought it best we wait until they were finished, so that our guide is as accurate as possible.

Recap

This is part 2. If you’ve not yet read part 1, I cannot stress enough, how important it is to do so. You can find part 1 of this Facebook guide, here.

Now then; if you remember rightly, at the end of part 1 I actually stated that part 2 would be all about helping you to keep your fans, teaching you how to grow your fan-base, & also some pointers on things to avoid- things that cause many marketing campaigns to fail. This is NOT the case. There’s just so much to try & squeeze in to what was supposed to only be a 2 part guide! So, I’ll come back to those points at a later date. Anyway, without further a-do…

Introduction

In this instalment, I’m going to guide you through setting up a Facebook page for a business or product- the correct way! Don’t forget what I taught you in part 1; it may even be worthwhile having another quick read through it to recap before proceeding. OK, without further-a-do…

Creating a Facebook page for a business or product- the correct way

Throughout this guide, I’m going to give you screenshots wherever possible to help show you exactly what you need to do. If you click the images, it’ll open up for a larger view. If you have any questions on anything that’s been covered in this guide, please feel free to leave a comment and I’ll try to answer any questions you have.

Before we begin, you must be logged out of Facebook. This is important.

In addition to the above, you must also have an email address that you can use to setup your new, business account on Facebook. You cannot use the same email address on more than 1 account, so if you only have 1 email address, perhaps you should go & setup a new one at hotmail or Gmail.

You now need to navigate to Facebook.com, then click on the ‘Create a page‘ link as seen in the following screenshot-

Let's begin!

  • Step 1:

Facebook marketing- How to setup a Facebook page for your business or product, the correct way!

When choosing a name for your page, make sure it’s something that relates to your product or business- of course, you should include your business name, or name of your product. Let’s use the page we’re about to setup as an example, which is being created to promote our new ‘Web-Folio’ system- a product designed for photographers to showcase their photography on their own professional looking website. Rather than naming the page ‘Web-Folio’, we’ve made the title a little more descriptive, because let’s face it- Web-Folio isn’t necessarily going to appeal to photographers- think about it?

So- we’ve named this page “Web Folio – Professional, Affordable, Photographer websites”. See the difference?

IMPORTANT NOTES:

When you setup a PAGE on Facebook, usually once you have given the page a name- it’s impossible to change it, so spelling and punctuation is very important. If you ever wanted to change something in the page title- the only way to do so would be to create a new page, thus losing any fans your old page had. By using our method to create a page, you CAN edit your page name whenever you wish! We were quite surprised ourselves!

You’ll notice that in the screenshots below, right up until step 8, there’s a link at the top of the Facebook page to ‘Create a profile’ via your business page. Remember back to part 1 of this guide- you should NOT create a profile with your business account! From step 10 onwards, you’ll notice that I did- I had my own reasons for doing so, which you’ll no doubt find out in a later guide if you hang about. Just remember, Facebook PROFILES are for PEOPLE, and Facebook PAGES and for BUSINESSES.

  • Step 2:

Make sure you choose “I do not have a Facebook account”. Even if you do already have an account! This will enable you to setup a business account (Remember what we taught you in part 1 of this guide!).

  • Step 3:

  • Step 4:

Now check your email for the activation link, to finish creating your business account, and business/ product page. If you don’t receive the email, check your spam/ bulk/ junk folder.

  • Step 5:

After you’ve confirmed your email address, you’ll now be able to see the page that you’ve just created. It should look something like the above screenshot.

  • Step 6:

First thing you’ll want to do is add a profile picture to the page. To do so, just hover the question mark image, then choose ‘Upload image’. This will allow you to upload an image from your computer. We’ll soon be adding a guide on this, as the picture you use on your page is actually very important- it will help you gain members, and promote/ sell your product or business. I’ll add a link there, to the article when it’s ready, so keep checking back.

Once you’ve added your image, your page should now look something like the screenshot above.

The next couple of steps are explained in the screenshots.

  • Step 7:

  • Step 8:

After you’ve completed step 8, click back to your page by clicking the Facebook logo at the top left of the page. Don’t forget to save your page details first.

  • Step 9:

The above screenshot tells you what you should write in that particular section. To edit the text, just click inside the box/ on the text.

  • Step 10:

Steps 10 & 11 are optional, but to help keep your page less cluttered, thus keeping peoples attention on the things that matter- it’s worth having a think about which tabs you do or don’t need.

  • Step 11:

  • Step 12:

  • Step 13:

OK, time to post our first status update/ link to the page.

  • Step 14:

Our first status has been posted to our page- have a look at the screenshot above to see the outcome. The next couple of screenshots will show you why you should post updates to your page.

  • Step 15:

Facebook marketing- How to setup a Facebook page for your business or product, the correct way!

  • Step 16:

Facebook marketing- How to setup a Facebook page for your business or product, the correct way!

And that’s it- you have now created a business account on Facebook, and your business/ product page.

There’s so much to Facebook pages- next part of this guide will show you how to add a custom welcome tab/ content to your page, thus making it look more professional. When Facebook users first visit your page, they’ll land on the ‘Welcome’ tab, rather than the ‘Wall’, which is usually full of text. Lookout for part 3, coming real soon!

I hope this guide’s been helpful and informative to you, and if you have any questions about anything covered in this guide about creating a Facebook business or product page, feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll try my best to answer.
