4Chan group ‘Anonymous’ continue DDoS attacks – Target Paypal (again)

Posted on December 9, 2010

At roughly 18:15GMT this evening, yet another attack was launched by hacktivists ‘Anonymous’, against one of the payment processing companies who recently denied to process any donations made to WikiLeaks –  That payment processing company being- PayPal. This time it seems rather than attacking PayPal’s blog, which was taken down only yesterday by the 4Chan-originated group- this evenings target is the Paypal API. You can check the current status of PayPal’s API here.

What does this mean? As far as we can tell, taking down PayPal’s API means no payments can be processed.

Many people from all around the world are joining the cause, hitting back at anyone who deems to be anti-WikiLeaks. Many have downloaded a form of ‘Malware’ to their computers, which can be trigged remotely to carry out DDoS attacks whenever needed. Others have been using one of many pre-made online DDoS applications, which seem to be (near) pre-set to do the needed.

What the DDoS (Denial of Service) does is- flood the target site with many requests per second; so much so that the server can no longer accept any further connections from people trying to access the site. (A little like trying to fit 20 people through a narrow doorway at the same time) -Thus making the site inaccessible!
