DKNY Facebook page attacked
Global fashion label, DKNY (Donna Karan New York) had it’s Facebook fan page attacked recently by members of PETA (The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
Thirteen members even went as far as to change their profile photos to block letters which led to the phrase ‘DK BUNNY BUTCHER‘ being spelt out down the page- along with some pretty blunt, & perhaps harsh anti-fur related statements.
The DKNY Facebook fan page has over 200,000 fans- so it’s not exactly rocket science to work out why this stunt was pulled by the anti-fur fanatics… When Mashable asked DKNY Senior Campaigner Ashley Byrne why PETA turned to Facebook specifically, she said the organization “hope[d] to reach new audiences who may not yet know about the cruelty that goes into every piece of fur used in her line.”
Nearly 1 week on, and the anti-fur attack still appears on the DKNY page, you can view some of them here. It’s rather surprising to us that they haven’t been removed by the fashion label as yet- as that’s sure 1 way to put a dent in the reputation of a business.
In addition to the Facebook protest, PETA also held demonstrations outside Donna Karan’s New York offices, retail outlets that carry the DKNY line, & even showed up at events she has hosted.
Social Media is a wonderful thing- no doubt about it. However sometimes it would appear; for all the wrong reasons.
